Suitable for students commencing their HSC in Term Four 2022, embarking on their HSC Drama Individual Project: Performance

About this workshop

Explore the elements that make up an engaging monologue with practical approaches to the individual project. In this workshop series students will learn dramatic concepts of character, goal, audience, conflict, stakes & staging.

This workshop explores approaches to performing a monologue using text analysis and rehearsal practices.

This acting workshop explores performing techniques to prepare and rehearse a monologue. During the series students will be introduced to:

  • How to build physicality and vocalisation techniques to enhance performance
  • The process of breaking down a script to find objectives, motivations and actions
  • Role of physicality and internal motivations for characterisation
  • Tools available to an actor when rehearsing a monologue and seeking feedback

This workshop is intended to help you create your a rehearsal practice and work with your chosen text (self-written or found) through practical exploration of acting techniques, guided by a Belvoir artist. Artists delivering this workshop will not be providing guidance on specifics of the HSC requirement. For information on your practical exam you should consult your teacher.


TO PREPARE: Participants will need:

  • bottle of water
  • writing tools of choice – paper & pen or pencil, on-screen writing program (i.e Word, Google Docs, etc.)
  • your monologue text or a sample monologue (samples will be sent to participants after booking)
