WRITING PLAYS FROM REAL STORIES

In connection with Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, this workshop is run by Belvoir to empower young people to harness their real world experience and to write their own play. Inspired by Lanie Robertson’s retelling of the life of Billie Holiday, coming to Belvoir as a play.

Suitable for students in high school, ages 15 – 18 years old who have an interest in writing.

Learn how to harness your interests and passions to create a piece of writing for performance that only you could write. Embrace your perspective on the world and channel your creativity into theatre writing.

In this workshop you will write a short scene or monologue using playwriting techniques.

Participants will need:

  • bottle of water
  • small nut-free snack
  • comfortable clothing you can move around in (e.g. active wear)
  • a notebook (optional)
  • a pen or pencil
