Belvoir’s General Auditions are back in 2023.
General Auditions are an opportunity for us to meet with actors who are new to the company.
We are not auditioning for particular roles; instead, these auditions are an opportunity for actors to connect with Belvoir and the Belvoir Artistic Team for consideration across our seasons and development pipeline.
We’re looking for actors who:
- are over 18 years of age;
- have at least three years of training or three years of acting experience outside of high school drama activities. This could be in stage or screen;
- have not been employed as an actor in a mainstage Belvoir show;
- did not attend the 2022 Belvoir General Auditions; and
- are based primarily in NSW and are able to make it to an in person audition on the dates specified below.
If you have previously submitted an application for the 2022 Belvoir General Auditions you are welcome to apply again this year.
General auditions are an open process where we will see as many actors as possible but given the restrictions of time and resources, please note that not all applicants will be guaranteed an audition slot. If you have worked on a mainstage theatre in Sydney it is likely we’ll have seen your work so do not be disheartened if we don’t call you in.
Belvoir welcomes and encourages First Nations, Culturally and/or Linguistically Diverse, d/Deaf or hard of hearing, Disabled, Neurodiverse, and Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTIQA+) Artists to apply for our general auditions.
Please note that we are only accepting personal submissions for general auditions. Agents may refer their clients to apply as individuals.
We will host four days of auditions in total in 2023.
There will be two days of auditions in our rehearsal rooms at the Belvoir Warehouse, one day at Merrigong Theatre Company in Wollongong, and one day at PYT Fairfield:
Tuesday 21st November, 10am-4pm
19 Harris St, Fairfield NSW 2165
Wednesday 22nd November, 10am-4pm
The Music Lounge
(Inside Wollongong Town Hall)
Crown St &, Kembla St, Wollongong NSW 2500
Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th November, 10am-4pm
Upstairs Rehearsal Room,
Belvoir Street Warehouse
18 Belvoir St, Surry Hills NSW 2010
When you complete the online EOI form, you will be asked to select the location/s which are most convenient for you.
For those we do invite to audition, we will assign you a specific time-slot between 10am-4pm. We will unfortunately be unable to accommodate requests for alternative times due to the volume of audition sessions being co-ordinated.
What to prepare
Please prepare TWO monologues –
ONE monologue from the Belvoir package of pieces,
And ONE monologue of your own choice no more than TWO MINUTES in length. We advise that you select a monologue from theatre as opposed to screen.
Please make your selection from the Belvoir package based on the material that feels most relevant to you and your artistry.
What to expect
The audition is a short session and a chance for us to get a sense of your work and who you are as an artist.
It’s also a chance for you to meet some of our Artistic & Programming team members.
Running our auditions are Head of Casting Emily David; Resident Directors Hannah Goodwin & Carissa Licciardello; and Andrew Cameron Fellow Abbie-lee Lewis. There will be at least two of us in each audition.
We’ll start by having a quick chat to introduce ourselves and get to know you.
Then we’ll ask you to present your first monologue from the Belvoir selection. We may ask to see the monologue one or two more times and give you direction.
If time permits, we may ask you to present your second monologue to finish the session. Please prepare one sentence that contextualises the piece for us.
We ask that you prepare in detail, however if you need to have your script in hand you can.
Applications close at midnight Thursday 2nd November 2023.
Applications are now closed.
