Housemates is Belvoir’s latest artist development program which aims to nurture early and mid-career theatrical talent, readying them to mount their own work on mid-scale stages.
We will employ three artists as Housemates per year, formally attaching them to a Belvoir mainstage production in a role aligned with their creative practice (director, designer, writer, actor). Through this process, they will have access to the full life cycle of the production, attending design presentations, rehearsal room events, company runs, technical rehearsals and previews. By observing every stage, the cohort will gain first-hand insight into how shows are built for the mainstage. Alongside this, they will be actively supported to develop their own practice by connecting with our Artistic and Programming Team through sustained mentoring and artistic support.
Housemates is about access: to the process, the people, and to the inner workings of Belvoir.

ABOUT ALOMA BARNES
Aloma is a Sydney-based costume designer, stylist, and set designer working across theatre, screen, and campaign styling. She holds a Master’s degree in Costume Design for Performance from the London College of Fashion (UAL), where she was encouraged to push creative boundaries through costume design. Aloma is fascinated by costume as a language in itself, one that communicates identity, psychology, status, and emotion before a character speaks. Her theatre credits include work with Sport for Jove, New Ghost Theatre Company, 25A and KXT. She is currently the Costume Designer for Harlots, an upcoming production by New Ghost Theatre Company at the Old Fitz Theatre. Her screen work includes the documentary Kindred, directed by Adrian Russell Wills, which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival, and she previously interned in the costume department for Amazon Prime Video with Excel Entertainment in Mumbai.

ABOUT MÂY TRẦN
Mây Trần is a Western Sydney based creative whose projects as an actor, writer, and director have been nominated at the Melbourne International Film Festival, Helpmann Awards, and Sydney Theatre Awards. With a background largely in theatre, some of their credits include Cleansed (Old Fitz Theatre, 2022), Hot Mess (KXT, 2021), R+J RMX (Opera House, 2021) and PLAYLIST (PYT, Opera House, 2019). Currently, they are working on their first solo piece Evil Autism.
