Gain a deeper understanding of Belvoir’s work and processes, connect with colleagues, develop insider industry knowledge and get direct support and inspiration for your classroom teaching. All while enjoying a Belvoir play and meeting new colleagues!

First Class members:

  • Attend four Belvoir productions throughout the school year (Thursday evenings),
  • Enjoy a delicious free beverage on arrival and hear exclusive pre-show talks from industry professionals,
  • Receive a handy resource toolkit for each production,
  • Join colleagues and Belvoir staff in a follow up Digital Salon led by an experienced teacher to discuss the production and approaches to teaching theatre productions,
  • Enjoy access to discounted tickets for other productions in the season.

COST: $228 per teacher.

Who is the program for?

  • Beginning teachers,
  • Teachers in the first 5 years of teaching or,
  • Teachers new to teaching Drama or English.

We are looking for teachers interested in how to teach theatre productions as texts in performance, how a script goes from page to stage and how live theatre can enhance your classroom teaching and student learning.

If you are invested in connecting your teaching practice with industry know-how, and are looking to connect with other early career teachers and a professional theatre company to support your career, this program is for you!

    Program Dates

    As part of this program you will attend one production each term, these nominated performances will commence with an industry professional pre-show talk commencing at 6PM, followed by a performance at 7.30PM. You will be booked in for the dates below when you join the program.

    • Song of First Desire, from 6PM Thursday 13 March 2025 (TERM 1, WEEK 7)
    • The Wrong Gods, from 6PM Thursday 15 May 2025 (TERM 2, WEEK 1)
    • Grief is the Thing with Feathers, from 6PM Thursday 7 August 2025 (TERM 3, WEEK 9)
    • Meow Meow's The Red Shoes, from 6PM Thursday 16 October 2025 (TERM 4, WEEK 6)

    As well as the above dates, we will have a follow-up session with an experienced teacher. The Digital Salon will take place online, after school hours the week following the performance. Digital Salons are a, strongly encouraged, however optional, part of the program.

    • Cost & Payment

      How much does it cost to be in the program?

      The program is only $218 per teacher for 2024 Program. This includes all four productions and all associated events (see: WHAT is included).

      How do I pay for my place?

      Once submitted, members will be sent an invoice within 3 working days. This invoice will need to be paid within two weeks.

      Payment can be made by direct debit, or via credit card over the phone.

      Can my school pay for this invoice?

      Yes, your school can use the invoice to pay this invoice as per our school payment terms. these will be provided on your invoice.

      When do I need to come to Belvoir?

      There are four key dates in the program. Pre-show talks begin at 6PM, and the performances commence at 7.30PM. To make the most out of the program you should plan to arrive at Belvoir from 6PM:

      Digital Salons are optional sessions that will follow each performance. This will be an opportunity to talk about teaching strategies with colleagues, experienced teachers and Belvoir. These will be online, after-school hours on the following dates*:

      *these dates are subject to change, members will be informed of any changes to the schedule well in advance.

      Can I still join if I can’t attend one of the performances?

      Yes, you are still welcome to join.

      You will be able to exchange any of the four performances for a different evening in the season (Tues-Fri evenings) with more than 2 business days notice. You will still be able to attend the Digital Salon and receive the resource toolkit for the performance. We won’t be recording or repeating the pre-show talk.

      Can I still join if I can’t attend the Digital Salon?

      Yes, these are optional.
