It is the director’s job to come up with a strong vision for a production and to communicate their ideas to the rest of the creative team. Initially a director works closely with their design team (Set, Costume, Lighting, Sound) to develop and refine their ideas for how the production will be realised.
In rehearsals, they work with actors to bring the text to life and are supported by their stage management team. Throughout the rehearsal period directors attend production meetings, along with the designers and Belvoir’s production team. Once the production is in the theatre the director watches closely to make sure all the elements; design, performance and technical production are working to tell the story collaboratively, in keeping with their vision.
