This time a year ago as we were putting our 2020 season together we decided we would end the year with a play about a society too addicted to comfort to notice the crisis looming on the horizon. Instead the crisis came faster than the play. Life has overtaken art, and so we have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel Summerfolk. Wonderfully, though, this means we will be able to push on with Kendall Feaver’s adaptation of My Brilliant Career, which we will move from September to November/December.
Kendall’s adaptation is glorious, joyful, free-spirited. It is hungry for the future. That’s the spirit we want for our work, especially now. Summerfolk is a great big glorious play, but the “big” part of it has run up against the financial realities of theatre in a socially-distanced world. So we are putting all our hopes and resources in the new Australian plays still in the season – My Brilliant Career and Kodie Bedford’s Cursed! – and we do still have another show up our sleeve…
So what do you need to do if you have tickets for My Brilliant Career or Summerfolk, or any of our other cancelled or postponed shows? We’ve made it very simple and easy. CLICK HERE, pick an option, fill out your contact details, and we’ll do the rest.
Until a few weeks ago we were hopeful that Australia’s track with Covid would mean we could throw our doors open very soon. Of course the situation has changed but we are still making theatre. We are ready to go. As soon as it’s safe, we’ll be back. Life must go on, and life means theatre.
