On Sunday evening 26 April, playwright S. Shakthidharan and our Artistic Director Eamon Flack were jointly awarded the Nick Enright Prize for Playwriting at the 2020 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards for their work on Counting & Cracking.

Counting & Cracking was a watershed moment for Belvoir and Co-Curious, written and produced over many years and with extensive consultation and collaboration from members of the Sri Lankan diaspora and community both in Australia and abroad, as well as those still living in Sri Lanka.

It was the biggest production in Belvoir history and a testament to what can happen through the coalescence of many people’s hard work, community consultation and carefully calibrated policy decisions that facilitate a healthy and ambitious arts industry.

Given the current limitations on social gatherings the award ceremony was conducted online, however you can still access Shakthi and Eamon’s acceptance speeches on the official twitter page of the State Library of NSW.
