Matthew Whittet

Matthew is an actor and writer who has worked extensively in theatre, film and television. Matt has performed across Australia for companies including Belvoir, Windmill Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company, Malthouse, Bell Shakespeare Company and State Theatre Company South Australia, with directors such as Rosemary Myers, Neil Armfield, Barrie Kosky, Benedict Andrews and Michael Kantor. Matt has performed for Belvoir many times, most recently in Atlantis, Girl Asleep, Cinderella, The Book Of Everything and Conversation Piece, and he is soon to appear in Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta production of Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam as part of Belvoir’s 2020 season. His film credits include The Nightingale, Girl Asleep, The Great Gatsby, Australia and Moulin Rouge!. As a writer, Matt’s plays for Belvoir include Seventeen (which recently played at the Lyric Theatre in London), Girl Asleep, Cinderella, Old Man and Silver. Matt’s collaboration with Windmill Theatre Co has resulted in plays: Girl Asleep, School Dance, Big Bad Wolf and Fugitive. Matt’s award-winning feature film adaptation of his play Girl Asleep debuted at the Adelaide Film Festival and went on to open the 2016 Generation 14 Plus Program at the Berlin International Film Festival. Matt was among the seven Sidney Myer Creative Fellows chosen in 2012.
