Our School holiday workshops give students an opportunity to explore theatre practices, whether it is a new area of interest or to develop their skills further. These practical workshops offer insights from professional artists giving students a head start in finding creative ways to tackle their own projects.

Delivered in the school holidays, Belvoir offer a range of workshops, from performance to design. Workshops for students are typically held at Belvoir for our Digital Workshops via Zoom and are suitable for students in year 10, 11 and 12.

Building A Character

Digital Workshop

Chelsea Zeller - Photograph by James PenlidisActor Chelsea Zeller explores the essential principles of characterisation and offers starting points for building a character from text. This performance workshop includes practical activities and gives students the chance to engage with professional techniques to explore a character.

During the workshop students will be introduced to:

• Process of breaking down a script to discover character
• The elements of building a character through improvisation
• Role of physicality and internal motivations for characterisation
• Tools available to an actor when starting to explore a character

Suitable for students in years 9, 10 and 11 (ages 14-18).

Introduction to Costume Design

Digital Workshop

Designer Imogen Ross explores the essential principles of costume design and offers starting points for theatre in relation to approaching the individual project. This costume design workshop includes practical design activities and gives students the chance to examine a professional costume designer’s portfolio.

During the workshop students will be introduced to:

• Process of designing costumes from initial design ideas to the final costume on stage
• The elements that make an effective costume design
• Role of costume design in the overall production
• Tools available to the costume designer: line, colour and texture

Suitable for students in years 9, 10 and 11 (ages 14-18).
