Recommended for ages 7+
Ruby is eight…and three quarters. She is everything a little girl should be: brazen, hopeful and bright-eyed. But unlike most girls her age Ruby is confined to a hospital bed. And she still believes in wishes. Collecting an ever-expanding string of bravery beads is just one of her many tactics to make her wish come true. Dot is a grown up, who is misunderstood. She misunderstands. She misinterprets, miss-speaks, mistakes. Mostly she mistrusts – words, that is. But in her job as a Clown Doctor words are unnecessary. She works with sound, music and mime. To make her life complete she even has a best friend called Russell who doesn’t speak at all. Because he’s made from paper…
Hospitals can be sterile and strange, especially for a kid. As Ruby and Dot form an unlikely friendship, a hospital room becomes a wonderland of mop monsters, bed caves, giant cranes and distorted fairy stories. Pillows become clouds, and only a tip truck worth of chocolate mousse can crush the bedroom baddies.
A visual spectacular, Ruby’s Wish reunites the creative team that brought you the hit CuBBYHOuSE (MAKEbeLIVE Productions, Tamarama Rock Surfers, The Public Theater, New York). It combines puppetry, comedy, animation and clowning, weaving a magical story of friendship across the generations.
