Designer Katja Handt takes students through principles and elements of theatrical set design and approaches to working on the HSC Drama IP. This workshop includes practical activities in set design, giving students the opportunity to view a designer’s portfolio.

Introduction to Costume Design with Imogen Ross

Designer Imogen Ross explores the essential principles of costume design and offers starting points for theatre in relation to approaching the individual project. This costume design workshop includes practical design activities and gives students the chance to examine a professional costume designer’s portfolio.

Playwriting Workshop for students with Tommy Murphy

Saturday 30 November 2019
9.30am – 12.30pm

Playwright Tommy Murphy (for Belvoir: Packer & Sons, Mark Colvin’s Kidney, Gwen in Purgatory, Holding the Man and as Adaptor Peter Pan) runs an in-depth workshop for students interested in writing their own scripts.

Students will have the unique opportunity to gain a behind-the-scenes experience of how Tommy’s latest play Packer & Sons was researched and developed for the stage.

Students participating in the workshop are encouraged to see a performance of Packer & Sons prior to the workshop date. The workshop will use Packer & Sons as its focus to explore the art of playwriting.

During the workshop students will explore:

  • Principles of dramatic action
  • Strategies for bringing characters to life
  • Writing dialogue
  • Approaches to redrafting and structure
  • Rehearsal room techniques for honing the draft
