Theatre Enrichment

How do you write about theatre in your English exam if you’ve never seen a play?

Seeing professional theatre is completely out of reach for many students due to financial and geographical obstacles. However, the English HSC course requires all students to write about plays in the context of live performance.

Belvoir’s Theatre Enrichment Program has been running for a number of years. The program supports senior English and Drama students in Western Sydney and regional NSW by providing them with the confidence, language and tools to describe and evaluate a text in performance.

Year 11 students are given the opportunity to attend a schools performance at Belvoir St Theatre and participate in a pre- and post-show visit at their school. The visits are conducted by trained educators and key Belvoir artists, and are designed to strengthen their understanding of texts in performance.

Program details

There are two elements to the program:

  1. A pre-performance visit to your school by Belvoir to assist students in preparing to see a Belvoir production.
Read more about Belvoir’s productions here: Schools Performances
  2. Attending a schools performance at Belvoir St Theatre, free of charge.

Who can participate?

The program is designed for Year 11 English students with limited experience of live theatre. It also suits Year 10 & 11 Drama students with limited theatre experience. Ideally there should be a minimum of 20 participants. Please speak to our Education team if you have a smaller group.
