Belvoir’s Outreach Program

Giving young people a voice.

Belvoir partners with youth support organisations to give young people access to a professional theatre company and their artists via our Youth Express programTwice a year in our Downstairs Theatre, young people who have participated in our Youth Express program perform their own devised pieces of theatre.

We partner with youth support organisations such as Key College: Youth off the Streets, The John Berne School, Twenty10 and Regenesis Youth to give young people access to a professional theatre company and their artists. Through the program, young people develop communication and coping skills to improve their lives and many have the chance to experience the performing arts for the first time.

Youth Express has been running since 2005. Young people commit to a 16-week series of drama workshops during which they work with a director to write and perform their own short pieces of theatre.

Youth Express gives participants the opportunity to make creative discoveries in a safe environment. The young people have their stories acknowledged in a public forum. The impact of this program is far-reaching in terms of the confidence and self-awareness young people develop as a result of participating in this program.
