A joyful extravaganza about Koori soul sisters whose voices take them to Vietnam
1969. Vietnam. Bombs are dropping and the world is exploding in protest. Back at the Tiki Club in St Kilda, four Koori sisters with a Supremes cover group catch the eye of a big-city talent scout. But the realisation of their lifelong dream to perform overseas doesn’t turn out quite the way they expected.
This swinging celebration of the warmth and heartbreak of family, set against discrimination and the realities of war, tells the true story of The Sapphires, girls from country Victoria who ended up in Vietnam performing for the troops.
Wesley Enoch’s terrific production features the talents of Christine Anu and Casey Donovan in this long-awaited revival.
Last time around our only schools performance sold out. Afterwards, a teacher emailed, “I feel compelled to congratulate you on a brilliant show that had my 17 year old teenage boys clapping and yelling and loving theatre. It means so much to have an experience of theatre that shakes their world.”
Euphoric and upbeat, your students will love this show!
Please Note: The Sapphires plays in the Yourk Theatre at the Seymour Centre
