"Peter Carroll and Lynette Curran are superb, as you'd expect from these two magnificent performers. The chairs scene is a comic tour de force." The Australian 4/3/05
Benedict Andrews, one of Australia's most compelling theatrical imaginations, gives us Ionesco's hilarious masterpiece of clowning.
Brought to life by Peter Carroll and Lynette Curran, The Chairs is an acting tour-de-force that will have you glued to your seat. Don’t miss it!

In a room filled with chairs, an old couple busily ready themselves for the arrival of their guests attending a lecture which will contain the secret of the meaning of life. One by one the guests turn up to hear this ultimate truth. Finally, all that remains is for the esteemed Orator to make the speech… or will he?
In this great absurdist masterpiece of the 1950’s, Ionesco reflects on the meaning and meaninglessness of life. With all the madness of a French farce, he prepares us for the revelation of the great secret, only to whip the rug out from under us at the last moment in a delicious, cruel and funny theatrical twist.
The Chairs is a compelling joke; a provocative question mark about existence. If you loved Company B’s sell-out season of Waiting for Godot, you’ll go mad for The Chairs.
Tickets to this production are also available as part of a 2005 Season Ticket package.
