Martin is a 50-year-old, award-winning architect chosen to design a 27 billion-dollar dream city in the American midwest. He and his wife Stevie and their 17-year-old son live in their art-filled uptown apartment. They’re at the top of the heap.
But when Martin confides to his best friend that he is in love with Sylvia, he sets in motion events that threaten to destroy his family, his career and leave his life in tatters. So who is Sylvia?
This Oedipus Rex for the modern world is from the legendary author of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Winner of the 2002 Tony Award for Best Play, The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? is a provocative and startling black comedy that questions the boundaries of love and the limits of desire.
With tour de force performances from William Zappa and Victoria Longley, this State Theatre Company production directed by Marion Potts had Adelaide ablaze when it premiered in August 2005.
“This is, as Albee insists, a play about love. And love, he suggests, is more mysterious, and more powerful, than we may be prepared to accept.” THE DAILY TELEGRAPH (UK)
