The 2005 Winter Play Reading Series

Written by
Reg Cribb

Directed by
Anthony Weigh

With
Tony Barry, Travis Cotton, Drew Forsythe, Damon Herriman, Hayley McElhinney, Susie Porter, Kerry Walker and Darren Weller

In a remote valley in the Tasmanian wilderness the young environmentalist Lola is dragged into the bush without warning, raped and brutally bashed. One year later her fearless friend Josie comes to the valley to protest the logging of the old growth forest and to find out why Lola returned to the mainland a shell of the vital young woman who had left for Tasmania.

Told with Reg Cribb’s characteristic humour, feel for the Australian character and poetry, what unfolds is a love story, a thriller and a gothic exploration into the dark heart of the ancient forests of Tasmania.

About The 2005 Winter Play Reading Series

The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting colder and at Company B we are in the depths of programming our 2006 Season. Some of our most exciting writers have come bursting out of their garrets with their latest works, eager to see the play read in front of a live audience. That’s where you come in. Come and be our guinea pigs at The 2005 Winter Play Reading Series so we can find out if these plays tickle your funny bones and touch your hearts.

We reckon the plays are pretty good so we’ve assembled some of Australia’s finest directors and actors to bring them to life in a series of rehearsed readings over four weeks. After each reading stay for a drink in the Belvoir St Theatre Bar and have a chat with us about the plays. This way we’ll know what delights and what doesn’t, while you’ll get a sneak peek at the tasty theatrical fare we are considering for 2006.
